World Cup: England vs. Norway

England and Norway will square off in today's World Cup quarterfinals, and I am hosting a watch party at Words and Lyrics Cafe/Mango Market to enjoy the match. As some of you know, I am an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, but I do enjoy watching soccer/football during the World Cup and Olympics.

Doors open at 4:30 pm Eastern Time, and kickoff is at 5:00 pm. I think we are in for some exciting and intense gameplay with dynamic playmakers on both teams.  I guess I am officially neutral in this one but will probably find myself rooting for England. Good luck to both teams!

The stage is set at Miami Stadium today as England and Norway clash in a blockbuster 2026 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM Eastern Time, with the winner booking a spot in the semi-finals.

The Storylines

  • The Star-Studded Golden Boot Race: Norway's goal-machine Erling Haaland enters this match with seven goals in the tournament so far. He will go head-to-head against England's talismanic striker Harry Kane, who has netted six times himself. Both are hot on the heels of the tournament leaders in the race for the Golden Boot.

  • Teammates Turned Rivals: The match features fascinating Premier League familiarity. In midfield, Arsenal teammates Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard will battle for control of the pitch. Meanwhile, England center-backs like John Stones will look to apply their club-level knowledge to contain their Manchester City teammate Haaland.

  • Historical Stakes: While England is hunting for its first World Cup title since 1966, Norway is enjoying a historic cinderella run. After a 28-year absence from the World Cup, the Norwegians stunned powerhouse Brazil 2-1 in the Round of 16 to secure their first-ever quarterfinal appearance.

Glob's New Video and Recent Events...

  Glob's YouTube sequel video dropped on May 24th, 2026, and I think most thereians would agree it was well worth the wait.  The first half unfolded like the director's cut of a popular film, and I thought it was fun and insightful to see extended conversations and various scenes play out in the sequel. I Spent 100 Days in a Dead Game I know some people in the comments section of YouTube were not happy with this format, but that's why the fast-forward button exists, of course. I had an afternoon free and was perfectly content with a nearly one-hour running time. Upon finding out about the video's Sunday-afternoon release, I quickly created a watch-party event at my cafe and had a decent-sized crowd show up. Concert Under the Stars...

  On Saturday, March 7th, Words and Lyrics Cafe hosted musician Franklyn Woods for a two-hour concert. The event was a big success, with 35 people enjoying all or parts of the show. A special thank you goes to thereian Schlafstimulans  for helping out with the set up and soundchecks! Speaking of sound, pretty much everyone thought Franklyn sounded great on his Youtube livestream. He went through an impressive and wide-ranging catalog of original tunes infused with country and folk vibes. Franklyn also talked about how he often enjoys small venues rather than bigger spaces, since the audience's reaction is more up-close and personal in places like coffee shops and cafes.
