Halloween Fun!

It was a lot of fun hosting movie events in the time leading up to Halloween as well as Halloween weekend itself. Camp-glob-a-goo, with its campfire in the woods and hovering apparitions, was the perfect venue for Director Mike Flanagan's Hush and Mr. Ballen's "Balloween" livestream.

At the suggestion of Mortazel, a group of us watched Tucker & Dale vs. Evil on the night after Halloween. The movie, a hilarious mix of horror and comedy, features a group of obnoxious college students squaring off against some backwoods hillbillies. I highly recommend this movie if you enjoy similar fare like Shaun of the Dead.

Moviegoers also enjoyed some cash giveaways at the end of the films and livestream -- a special shoutout to BABS for funding the after-movie fun! She and her crew also deserve a lot of credit for making such incredibly detailed and fun haunts.

Last year, I attended a creepy yet fun tour of a home in Southwestern Pennsylvania.  Featured in the movie Silence of the Lambs, the residence was the lair of a serial killer nicknamed "Buffalo Bill." The tour features a lot of interesting decorations and artwork, and is definitely worth a weekend trip for film buffs. Here is an essay I wrote based on my experiences touring the home...

The House by the Tracks

For all you horror fans out there, Fangoria magazine is doing a Kickstarter campaign for a hardcover book that looks incredible. There are various contribution levels, and I chose one that includes both the book and access to a searchable, digital database. Over 2,300 hundred people have signed on so far, and there are about three weeks left in the campaign.

A Reminder That Fango Readers Are, In Fact, The Best

Fangoria compendium on Kickstarter

This campaign supports “First in Fright: The Fangoria Compendium”, a limited-edition hardcover book and digital archive celebrating nearly five decades of horror history. The project features:

  • 300 pages of full-color content, including rare behind-the-scenes photos, unreleased stories, and archival material

  • Contributions from horror legends like Clive Barker, Joe Bob Briggs, Mike Flanagan, Barbara Crampton, and Tom Savini

  • A foreword by Bryan Fuller, plus commentary from Fangoria editors past and present

  • A digital archive component that preserves Fangoria’s legacy for future generations

This campaign is a tribute to horror fans, filmmakers, and the genre’s evolution since 1979. It’s already surpassed its initial funding goal, showing strong support from the horror community
