Weekends at Words and Lyrics

Image
On Saturday, November 15, our group of true-crime enthusiasts gathered at Word & Lyrics  to watch the latest video from David Oranchak's Let's Crack Zodiac series on Youtube. The episode examined the Z-13 and Z-32 cipher solutions proffered by Faycal Ziraoui, a French-Moroccan business consultant and engineer. These ciphers were mailed to the San Francisco Chronicle in 1970 by the infamous Zodiac Killer. Many attempts have been made to decipher these encrypted messages, and pretty much everyone in our group expressed skepticism in Mr. Ziaraoui's solutions. Cipher experts point out these ciphers are extremely difficult to solve since they contain only 13 and 32 characters, respectively. David's video was nonetheless engaging and informative, and I plan to show more of them at my cafe in the future. Sunday Night Football

Image
Join us for another evening of Sunday Night Football at Words and Lyrics . The Pittsburgh Steelers will be visiting Los Angeles to take on the L.A. Chargers on November 9th. Doors open at 8:00 pm, and the game will begin at 8:20 pm. I think this game is going to be a tough test for the Steelers, as they face off against a formidable L.A. offense led by QB Justin Herbert. However, the Steelers' defense looked revitalized against the Colts last weekend in a 27 to 20 win. This will be my third NFL watch-party hosted at Words and Lyrics , and attendees are usually passionate about pro football. However, everyone is invited to drop by regardless of fandom. Gabby095 had a nice write up of the Chiefs-Chargers game back in September; this contest was unique because it was played in Brazil and broadcast worldwide on Youtube. Here is Gabby's recollection of that event:   The Night MangoMarket Became a Stadium     Gabby's blog is a lot of fun, and he really brings a lot ...

Halloween Fun!

Image
It was a lot of fun hosting movie events in the time leading up to Halloween as well as Halloween weekend itself. Camp-glob-a-goo, with its campfire in the woods and hovering apparitions, was the perfect venue for Director Mike Flanagan's Hush and Mr. Ballen's "Balloween" livestream. At the suggestion of Mortazel, a group of us watched Tucker & Dale vs. Evil on the night after Halloween. The movie, a hilarious mix of horror and comedy, features a group of obnoxious college students squaring off against some backwoods hillbillies. I highly recommend this movie if you enjoy similar fare like  Shaun of the Dead . Moviegoers also enjoyed some cash giveaways at the end of the films and livestream -- a special shoutout to BABS for funding the after-movie fun! She and her crew also deserve a lot of credit for making such incredibly detailed and fun haunts. Last year, I attended a creepy yet fun tour of a home in Southwestern Pennsylvania.  Featured in the movie Silen...
