Here are more random photos I snapped on there.com. Some pics were taken at planned events, and others were snapped at random get-togethers. The title photo above is a buggy-bash event I attended this past Saturday.

The beginnings of Fantasy Football...

Image
The origins of NFL fantasy football can be traced back to 1962. That year, a part-owner of the Oakland Raiders named Bill Winkenbach accompanied the team on an East-Coast road trip. On this trip, Mr. Winkenbach came up with the idea of a statistics-based game that mirrored the actual performances of players in pro games. This short, nearly 10-minute video takes us back to the events of 1962, when the Oakland Raiders were mired in a losing streak. It does a good job of showing the level of interest and enthusiasm there was in this new game, and the video's production values are very good as well. The Origin Story of Fantasy Football - YouTube

Laguna Beach...

Image
My buddy Vanilla Dutch has created a nice spot for chilling and working on your suntan. There are palm trees, beach loungers, and several jet skis on the dock. Dutch named this place "Laguna Beach" as a tribute to an online game (vmtv) that a lot of therians played back in the day. Dan (Vanilla Dutch) mentioned that Area Club and Real World Sydney were two of his favorites spots on vmtv. The game featured one huge island in the shape of California, and moving from vmtv to there.com was pretty easy because the games shared basically the same software. If you drop by Laguna Beach, one thing you will notice is Vanilla Dutch's impressive eye for detail. He likes to get things exactly right, even if it means asking a designer for a custom-made item. Notice the small waves moving under the dock and jet-skis in the top picture. When I dropped by Laguna Beach this morning, I asked Dan if he had any thoughts on the upcoming NFL season and his favorite team, the Miami Dolphins. H...

Pinkerbelle and her concert...

Image
Pinkerbelle's concert last Saturday was a lot of fun and well-attended. 30 people dropped by Words and Lyrics Cafe for all or part of the event, and everyone came away impressed with Pink's vocal talents. She sang five songs -- a mix of originals and covers -- and then added four more after a brief intermission. Pink also sang a few song requests from the audience. I am hoping I can book her for a few more events in the future. Thank you to everyone who came out and made this a fun evening, and also a big shout out to those who stuffed the donation box. I felt like a noob at the after-party when I had to ask how to get the donations out of the box and into my account! Enjoy your shopping spree, Pink.
